NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING ANNUAL DETERMINATION
OF AMOUNT TO BE ASSESSED FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES
WHITE PIGEON TOWNSHIP
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MICHIGAN

To: Residents and property owners of White Pigeon Township and all other interested persons.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that:

  1. The Township Board has estimated the expenses and costs of providing fire protection and ambulance services within the Township for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026 to be as follows:

    Fire protection services – $340,500.00
    Ambulance services – $38,000.00

    These estimates result in a uniform fee of $225.00 per parcel for each improved parcel for 2026 and $40.00 per parcel for each unimproved parcel for 2026 (with an unimproved parcel including any parcel with a building assessment value of $2,500.00 or less). These annual estimates are made as part of a special assessment district established in 2022 to raise funds for fire protection and ambulance services. The assessment district includes all parcels within the entire unincorporated portion of White Pigeon Township, except for properties exempt from the collection of taxes under the General Property Tax Act.

  2. The Township Board will hold a public hearing at the White Pigeon Township Hall, located at 16975 US 12, White Pigeon, Michigan, on June 3, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., for the purposes of hearing comments on and/or objections to the estimated costs and expenses listed above and the distribution of the assessment as well as making revisions and/or corrections thereto. The assessment roll may be examined at the office of the Township Clerk during regular business hours of regular business days until the time of the hearing and may further be examined at the hearing.
  3. Appearance and protest at this public hearing is required in order to appeal the amount of the special assessment to the Michigan Tax Tribunal. An owner or party in interest or his/her agent may appear in person at the hearing to protest the special assessment, or he/she may file his/her appearance or protest by letter and his/her personal appearance shall not be required.
